The Poulenc Sonata for Flute and Piano is one of the most popular works ever written for this combination and with very good reason. All three movements are iconic, whether it's the opening motif darting around between the instruments in the 'Allegretto malincolico', the beautiful and dramatic 'Cantilena' or the immensely exciting 'Presto giocoso'. Poulenc has highlighted the flute at its best and elevated the piano to a partner instrument, making any performance a most wonderful musical experience for both the players and those lucky enough to hear it.
