Honkyoku, the "original music" of the shakuhachi, represents one of the major genres of traditional Japanese music. The name of the instrument is derived from an ancient system of measurement, shakuhachi being the corruption of i shaku ha sun which literally means 1.8 feet, the length of the classical flute.
These Shakuhachi are among the best commercially available and this pack has everything you need to get started on this beautiful and haunting instrument. They are made in the USA with Japanese grown Tiger Bamboo, a unique species of black bamboo that is indigenous to Shikoku, the smallest of Japans main islands.
Made in the key of D, known in Japanese as I Shaku Ha Sun, this is the size of Shakuhachi first used by students of this traditional music.
