The Double Contrabass flute is tuned in C. The range of the Double Contrabass flute starts an octave below the Contrabass Flute. Or three octaves below the C-flute. Only a few of those instruments exist worldwide. The Double Contrabass was developed in 2023 and was first presented at the fall 2023 NFA convention and Grolloo Flute Sessions.
A Kingma Double Contrabass flute is silver plated. The instrument is delivered with a Wiseman case and a carbon fibre tripod stand. Although a bulky instrument with a total (stretched out) length of nearly 5 meters(!) it is has some elegance and it is still possible to bring it with you.

Eva Kingma has successfully created the world's largest flute! At nearly 5 metres (16') long, this sounds an octave below the contrabass flute, or three octaves below the concert flute, just a handful have been made. A masterpiece of ingenuity and creativity.
About Eva Kingma
Eva Kingma specialises in making the 'lower' sounding flutes. They produce a wide range of flutes including Alto, Bass, Contrabass and Sub contrabass flutes. Their flutes are hand-made and have dedicated time and effort towards building instruments that suit the requirements and physical needs of their customers. The results of their endeavours have led to the development of a line of instruments with increased musical potential which all began with the development of the open-hole alto flute. Following the innovation of the "Key-on-Key mechanism" and the patented "Kingma System ®", a series of open-hole and quarter-tone Alto, Bass and Contrabass flutes were created. As a result of the inspiring collaboration with Bickford Brannen, a full quarter-tone C-flute with the patented Kingma System® is now available at Brannen Brothers Flutemakers, Inc. and Sankyo flutes.
