Zefiro was written for the Falaut group in Italy who requested a sweet, short light piece. It is a zephyr, light gentle wind of a melody. There is little tension in the piece, and it is not at all difficult to perform.
This is a nice little piece from Gary Schocker which is typical of his style. It opens with 2 flutes quietly dancing along in thirds accompanied by a syncopated bass. A tune develops over this before the writing becomes more complex, with the parts entwining with argeggio figures. There is also some subdivision of the parts which makes the texture much more dense and it's therfore really important to keep the rhythms tight where possible. It all ends calmly. Short and sweet!
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
