“A tricky subject”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - chrish@justflutes.com

'Vibrato is a controversial subject" states the preface and not everyone will be in favour of this book. The actual teaching method employed here is pretty standard but the writing out of the technique as actual rhythms is unusual. However, it is a workbook and if students work through it systematically they will least understand the musical concept even if the technique eludes them. It's not for everyone but it is interesting.

Our Description

The Vibrato Workbook by Chris Potter was written to provide a structure to learn how to create and use vibrato. It can be used by a teacher and student or by any individual. A CD of selected exercises is included. The book starts with learning how to produce a controlled straight tone and, through a series of exercises and melodies, the flutist arrives at six pulses per second of a controlled, even vibrato. Section two of the book works on the matching, controlling and making choices about the intensity of the pulses and a third section makes suggestions regarding when, where and how much vibrato to use. Teachers and individuals will appreciate being able to “turn the page” and know that progress is being made.
