Trio Sonata in G major for 2 Flutes and Continuo, Op16 No1
- Editor's Choice
Also available: Anonymous: Divertimento
These trios are worthy of a mention, as they are both very lovely. The Abel is ideal for introducing younger players to chamber music. It is very approachable with a straightforward rhythmic structure and range of notes. Both continuo parts are also very user-friendly. The unusual Divertimento in 3 movements is by 'an unknown master of the early Classical period'. Although it is more complex than the Abel it is still very manageable and also seems to work without the keyboard. I really enjoyed these pieces and I'm sure you will too.
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
