“Beguiling Grieg”
These three Grieg songs lend themselves very well to a transcription for two flutes and piano. The Way of the World has a strong rhythmic basis to support the flutes as they dance about playfully. The Secretive Nightingale is more overtly songlike and interspersed with captivating birdcalls, and A Dream is altogether darker with a yearning quality that reaches up to a thrilling climax. There is always a space for such beguiling music on your shelf and Grieg will never disappoint!
From the Publisher
Elizabeth Walker has previously arranged four 'Songs Without Words' by Felix Mendelssohn as well as a Chaconne by Jean-Marie Leclair for two flutes and piano for ALRY Publications. These Three Songs by Edvard Grieg (1843 – 1907) have been selected from his Six Songs (Sechs Lieder) Opus 48, first published in 1889 by C.F. Peters. Grieg used various German texts and wrote all his songs for his wife Nina. He wrote to his biographer Henry T Finck, “My songs came to life naturally and through a necessity like that of a natural law, and all of them were written for her.” Songs included are: The Way of the World (Lauf der Welt), The Secretive Nightingale (Die verschwiegene Nachtigall), and A Dream (Ein Traum).
