A commission by Jessica Heller Knopf resulted in the new Chen Yi concert work for alto saxophone in two diametrically opposed movements. “The Soulful” is lyrical with moving and gripping melodies, while “The Perpetual” uses perpetual motion to symbolize consistence and perseverance. Knopf gave the premiere at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress, and the performance is available on YouTube. For advanced performers.
