Jürgen Ewers was born in Bremen in 1937, but grew up in Styria. He began studying mathematics and astronomy in Graz, but soon abandoned them in favor of studying music. In 1963 he became head of the music school in Gröbming. His passion for mountains became his downfall when he had a fatal accident while climbing the Grimming in 1965.
