In 1853 Robert Schumann published the 6 sonatas with piano accompaniment, the latter in his own hand. Schumann's piano part is characterized by a restraint that was astonishing for the time and very much suits our sense of style today. The flute part takes over the main melodic line without having to touch the harmony. The solo part was transposed up a fourth.
