From the Publisher
The great late romantic sonata by Richard Rößler (1880-1962) represents a significant enrichment of the literature of this era. In the first movement there is a cheerful atmosphere in which the character of the flute is already expressed. This is followed by a profound Adagio in C minor, a key that is extremely rare in flute literature. In the third movement, an intermezzo, the flute indulges in extravagant melodies and the piano becomes restlessly fast. The 4th set places very high demands on both players. A mystical grave introduces the movement, and then introduces a popular theme in bright E major, which is repeatedly changed in the most sophisticated way. This is contrasted with a second theme that is reminiscent of an opera aria. Both themes are artfully linked and the work ends furiously.Performance duration (approx): 60
