Johan Halvorsen has based this piece on a Theme by Handel and it stays true to its Baroque roots throughout. The slow Sarabande theme is varied by a combination of speed changes and virtuoso writing and this adaptation for two piccolos captures most of the power of the original string writing. Unusual and very interesting!
