“If you like Kuhlau you'll love this”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

Weyse (1774-1842) was a contemporary of Kuhlau and they both lived and worked in Copenhagen. This Rondeau, dated 1837, is his only known surviving work for flute. The styles of the 2 men are obviously similar but this piece is very tuneful, starting with a brooding Andante introduction in D minor and then remaining in the same key for the Allegretto rondo theme. There is a brief section in D major to add extra interest and there are, as ever in this genre, plenty of notes to play. It's a nice piece though - if you like Kuhlau you'll love this despite the price.
