Our Description

Starting life as an organ piece Pavane was composed for the memorial service at St. Paul's, Covent Garden as a tribute to the famous and greatly loved star of stage and screen, Gladys Cooper, who died in 1971. It subsequently became a movement in Lewis's Norfolk Concerto for Flute, Harp and Strings and is here arranged for flute or violin and piano with an option for flute or violin, 'cello and piano. Twice recorded, warmly received by concert audiences and described as 'very beautiful' by the widow of English composer Gordon Jacob.

Review: "This is a piece Paul Lewis rearranged for the Hilser Trio and is a lovely addition to the flute cello piano repertoire. It is an extremely versatile piece which we have used in concert programmes and as encores. Its luscious melody is a favourite with audiences and we have recorded it on disc." - Dr. Rachel Smith DMA, MA, BMus (Hons), FTCL and flutist of the Hilser Trio - October 2012
