“An unusual book. ”
It is unusual to find a compilation book for this combination of instruments and the wide range of repertoire used makes it very interesting. The Classical period works are either arrangements or adaptations of original, larger works and form the bulk of the book. This will be great for developing ensembles who need experience of playing together. The Contemporary section consists of shorter pieces by little known composers which are fascinating and harder. Enzo Gieco's Cocimex is the most approachable with lilting 6/8 rhythms and moderate technical challenges. Bachelios by Alain Louvier introduces a completely different sound world with an improvised cadenza and changing metre, Ping Pong spaces both the performers and the music in pairs and the Gilles Carre is a contemporary technique feast. This a great book for teachers and more advanced groups alike.
