“A showstopper!”
All three players have a wonderful time in this imaginative piece which is a workout for everyone. The opening bell-like sonorities are achieved a slow tempo, accented low register notes and atmospheric piano writing. The flutes are rarely separated in the Allegro Vivo, with almost total rhythmic unity and conventional harmonies swirling around across the whole instrumental range. The accompaniment has plenty of solo passages to break up the texture and plenty of notes which add to the exuberant feeling of a huge cacophony of bells. A challenging and exhilarating play, it's also a showstopper!
