From the Publisher

Departure (vehement and excited) In front of the mirrors (demonic, with constantly changing expression) Rapture (calmly flowing, distant, glassy) The fleeing light (flowing). The expressive work with the simple title “Music” takes place in space. Grete von Zieritz completed it on April 27, 1957. The first Soviet Sputnik launched six months later and the composer viewed her work as a “magical foreshadowing of earth-shattering events.” After the premiere on October 18, 1960 (by the clarinetist Heinrich Geuser), critics described the composition as “vital and masculine,” which at the time was meant as a compliment for a woman composing.

Performance duration (approx): 52
