From the Publisher
Monochromes stems from the composer's interest in color, associated with light since childhood. Light becomes musical light.
It is the different sensations that colors evoke that she wished to transpose into three varied color-atmospheres, imagining each movement surrounded by a light, its own texture.
The first Monochrome, lyrical, reveals the shapes of an imaginary and sonorous landscape as the rhythm evolves. The contours of the melody, resembling shapes or objects, become increasingly precisely articulated, taking shape from the quarter note to the thirty-second note in a gradual ascent before descending to the half notes. Could this be the color white?
This is what the second Monochrome suggests, misty and atmospheric. The effects of wind, ultrasound, the loss of the notion of time, and the widening of the range evoke the color pearl gray.
Contrasting in its tempo, character and passion, the last Monochrome is the accumulation of the textures of the other two movements, the explosion of a multitude of colors, creating the illusion of a single multiple color, like an iridescent kaleidoscope.
