This Meditation on 'Abide With Me' by Kelly Via was written for the West Michigan Flute Orchestra, under the direction of Julie Sooy. Although originally conceived just prior to the pandemic in early 2020, the melody and words became even more important as our daily lives began to change with the spread of the virus around the world. As the son of a minister, traditional hymns were a big part of the composer's life. Included in this work are a number of meter changes, counter melodies and harmonies that are atypical to this well-known hymn.
