“Classy writing for flutes”
There are some delightful contrasts in this aptly-named quartet for flutes. The three fast numbers, Allegro energico, Giocoso and Danza bustle with rhythmic vitality, and the slower Dolce pio weaves its spell through unusual harmonies and a flowing melodic line. Although technically challenging in parts the ensemble writing is not too complex, making each movement possible to learn relatively quickly. There is much to enjoy in this classy quartet and it will appeal to both player and audience alike.
