“Even Taffanel and Gaubert would be impressed by this!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - chrish@justflutes.com

Here is a jazz method that actually works for all types of players and it is so thorough that even Taffanel and Gaubert would be impressed!  The opening chapter on Intervals starts with chromatic intervals, scales using the tonic as a pedal point, whole tone scales and augmented arpeggios before exploring thirds, fourths, tritones etc up to sevenths. Each exercise is written out in all the twelve keys although you are encouraged to memorise each one. Symbols for chord construction are fully explained, the Blues is analysed in all keys and Chord and Scales Theory explains how to put it all together. Further study material follows and if you can grasp Chord Substitution you have really cracked it! Even if you don't actually master all the techniques included from memory in all keys in a jazz style, the exercises will inevitably increase your flute playing skills in a different way. Now that's really useful!

From the Publisher

This is a daily practice method for both aspiring and experienced jazz flutists. To better understand the process of jazz improvisation, the basics of jazz theory are explained and illustrated. The corresponding exercises following each lesson will help to develop the technical and musical reflexes necessary for jazz improvisation.
