'In his output of choral, orchestral and chamber music the recorder has featured prominently, and he has written for it both as a solo instrument and in ensemble works.  The 'Five Caprices' of 1988 follow in the long tradition of solo pieces of that title be Frescobaldi, Telemann, Quantz, Paganini et al and exploit the range and tonal resources of the five main members of the recorder family.'
