“Joyous music for Spring!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
Eric Ewazen can certainly write a good tune and this is a really lovely piece that captures the sense of hope that is the end of winter. The cascades of piano notes that introduce the opening flute melody comes straight from the heart of American musical language and this piece is really a series of snapshots of the countryside crossed by Hudson River on its journey towards the sea in the Spring. Substantial and varied, it makes a great recital piece.

From the Publisher

Eternal Spring was composed for trumpeter Robert Sullivan as a eulogy for his wife, bassoonist Robin Sullivan. The work celebrates her life and music (including a quote from Mozart's bassoon concerto) with poignant melodies and an uplifting spirit. Eternal Spring (A Hudson River Idyll), originally for trumpet and piano, was adapted for two flutes and piano at the request of Marya Martin and Katherine Fink. For advanced performers.
