“A real find!”
The surprising discovery of a treasure trove of the music of Marin Marais has been a sell-out success for aficionados, so it's great that we can all now enjoy these lovely pieces. The research carried out by Michael Lynn has been extensive and he has kept the editing to minimum. Aside from some sensitive ornamentation, tempo suggestions, articulations and dynamics are notable by their absence, leaving the pages nicely uncluttered. These 13 pieces are mostly dances in the standard forms of the day, pitched in the lower part of the flute and in friendly keys. This opens up performance possibilities to a wide range of players which is really useful. This is music you will keep coming back to time and again and a real find!
From the Publisher
Duos pour Flûtes by Marin Marais, edited by Michael Lynn. This volume is a reconstruction of 13 works for two flutes discovered within a trove of early French flute music acquired by Michael Lynn in 2023. Two scores are included, the original being for two flutes, and the second a transposition such that the duets can be played by two treble recorders. In addition to these works, 60 works for flute and bass were also found and have been published separately.
