From the Publisher
Winner of the “Special Prize” at the Mansurian International Composition Competition in Armenia in June 2024, this work has its roots in a French tradition inspired by Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, but retains all its singularity.
The light soprano voice and flute converse like the Soul and its Creator, and the often delicate piano underscores the mystical poetry of these five poems by St. Gregory of Narek, a 10th-century Armenian monk officially proclaimed a Doctor of the Church at a mass celebrated on April 12, 2015 by Pope Francis in Rome's St. Peter's Basilica, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. The magnificent French translation of these poems by Vahé Godel preserves all the sumptuousness of the work.
