From the Publisher

Belgian composer Jef "Joseph" Maes (1905 – 1996) often described himself as a "modern romantic," and this is certainly demonstrated by his 1957 Burlesque for bassoon and orchestra. This edition of the Burlesque for bassoon and piano reduction was first published by Metropolis Music Publishers in 1961. The work alternates back and forth between a quick Scherzo in triple meter, and slower Allegro moderato sections in common time. Much like his Arabeske and Scherzo for flute and orchestra, the soloist has the ability to showcase not only lyrical playing, but also technical abilities as well.
