This piece was composed in 1995 for Cecile Daroux who was a master of contemporary flute performance. Autour is a highly virtuoso piece which calls for a special glissando technique involving consecutive groups of fingering. This produces a very complex result with a correspondingly rich timbre which is particularly effective in the lower register of the alto flute.
