In addition to the original solo Joshua Smith has added an annotated part with exercises that highlight problem areas to work on, and an audition part which has further helpful hints. There is also written text to back up the points made. The variety of the solos chosen, all orchestral 'must-knows', is excellent, and the thought behind the book means that this way of working and the techniques covered can be transferred to other situations. If you are new to the audition process, this will add an extra level of security come the day and that alone will more than justify the price.

Each excerpt is provided in three versions: the Original Part as it appears in the actual score with original markings, an Annotated Part that includes instructions written into the part to aid preparation, and an Audition Part. All annotations are carefully made in blue ink for ease of reading.
Each excerpt comes with a written guide that includes primary and secondary points of interest when preparing for an audition. A number of practice exercises are also provided with suggested methods for overcoming specific challenges in each excerpt.
