“A passionate 'morceau de la mer'!”
The substantial piano introduction sets the scene for this dramatic piece which ebbs and flows with restless energy. Andersen writes soaring arpeggios over the flute range which never venture too high. This, together with to simplicity of the rhythm enables the performers to concentrate on delivering the passionate nature of the turbulence of the sea. A 'morceau' it may be but this really delivers a punch!
From the Publisher
Joachim Andersen, one of the great flute virtuosos of the 19th century, is known to flutists primarily for his etudes, which have become standard repertoire. That he was also able to write very charming salon pieces suitable for both concerts and lessons is proven yet again in his "Au bord de la mer" op. 9. The piece fascinates with its impressionistic style, which evokes the sea.
