“Different!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This is a demanding trio both technically and, more especially, musically. At the Glow of Dawn is elusive in character with each flute having its own version of the melody. The harmony is also unfamiliar, creating quite a dark picture. Ocean Blue is more spritely in nature with cross rhythms bounced around the parts and some changing time signatures, but is still rather veiled. Not everyone will embrace this style of writing but it's certainly different!

From the Publisher

(An alto flute part is included as an alternative to the third flute) This work showcases both the agility and the beautiful, sonorous tone of instruments. The two movements are At the Glow of Dawn (3’5”) and Ocean Blue (3’50”). Aquarius explores a variety of sonic atmospheres and moods. The sophisticated musical language coupled with soaring melodies and intriguing rhythms makes this trio an accessible concert work as well as an impressive contest piece.
