“Good concert repertoire”

This is a nice addition to the flute/oboe repertoire from Gary Schocker. Everything here is interesting, well-crafted and playable. 'Saucisson sec' drives along rhythmically with plenty of interplay between the three instruments. 'Pain au chocolat' is slow and lyrical, while 'Cornichons' is a quirky and challenging 12/8 jig. There is nothing else quite like this for this combination, and any movement would bring an attractive change of style in a recital.

The amuse-bouche, not an appetizer, per se, is an offering intended to set the table, prepare the palate, for a main course to follow. In this vein, Schocker's three short tastings will set up a program of flute and oboe duets in fine fashion.
