I bought this book as I have little time at the moment to explore tonal exercises & i also need to keep the fingers moving. I am sticking roughly to the exercise routine & I can really feel it helping.

5 out of 5 “Amazing for getting back to Basics”

I absolutely love this book! It’s amazing for getting back to basis because it covers four main areas; Sonority, Fingers, Articulation and Interval. All of which are the fundamentals for flute playing.

I find the structure and layout of this book very easy to understand because as the title suggests, you do four exercises, from one each main category. It’s really good at taking you through all the registers and there’s some fantastic exercises that help with those difficult finger combinations (of course they move through all the keys as well).

I’ve been stuck in a rut for a while now, and needed something to kick start my practice- highly recommend.

After seeing Mr Edmund Davies on a you tube video I was very interested to see what further he had to say.

My initial reaction to the book was one of disappointment, I am well used to making up my own study phrases and then repeating through different keys and superficially this is what this book appears to be. A printed version of what I do as a matter of course anyway

HOWEVER on closer inspection I discovered that there is a lot more to it than that.

I would have liked a few more pages of text, as I am very interested to hear what this gentleman has to say on a number of technical issues.

But the text that there is is certainly illuminating ,and the way I am using book, as an aid to technique building, studying the sections based on articulation and intervals really does pay dividends very quickly.

I think probably it would be of most use to people who already know all of their scales over the whole range of the though. But there is an easy answer to that.LEARN THEM!

This is the best purchase I have ever made. Working through these warm-ups is so fulfilling. Everything I had been missing is uniquely presented in this book. The content is chosen for exploring the possibilities of the instrument.

Thank you JustFlutes for stocking it and being able to provide shipping to Turkiye, where I am living currently.

Mostly, thank you to Paul Edmund-Davies for creating such an incredible book. I have never had a more content feeling than when I play through a new pattern and discover these cleverly written passages.
