Product Reviews: Trevor James 3041GSLRW 10X Open G# Flute

I am delighted with this instrument; it has exceeded my expectations. Student flutes have come a long way since I first started learning in the early 90s!

The keywork feels nice and sturdy and it's very even. The G and G# keys require the same force as the neighbouring keys, which makes trills super easy and fluid, especially the A-G# and G#-G trills, which are wonderful. Compared to my other flutes, the G# key (which is actually G!) is much lighter. I agree with the description of the flute being very free-blowing; I found it to be so through all the registers. The intonation is also spot on - they've clearly thought carefully about the scale.

I've always played closed G# woodwind instruments. Switching to open G# is going to be a challenge, but I think it will be worthwhile in the long-run. I wish an instrument like this had been around 30 years ago - it would have made learning a lot easier and even more enjoyable.
