“Anne Boyd at her best!”
Red Sun, Chill Wind is a real contrast to the other two pieces in this series. Whereas Bali Moods is energetic and Cloudy Mountain calm, this piece is stronger in nature. The flute uses techniques such as playing harmonics into the piano, glissandi, quarter tones, and harmonics alternating with tremolandi to weave its magic. The accompaniment often punctuates these textures with dissonant chords, but the writing here is also treble clef based, recreating the gamalan sound very effectively. This is Anne Boyd at her best!
