Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
taken from the Preface:
'Recorder Sight-Reading 1 aims to establish good practice and provide an early introduction to the essential skill of sight-reading.
Sight-Reading needs to be set regularly but is of little value unless the pieces sight-read are subsequently played to the teacher. Ideally, sight-reading in some form should become a regular part of a student's routine each time they play the recorder.
This book aims to establish the habit early in a student's recorder playing..... There are seven sections in this book, each of which introduces new notes, rhythms, articulations, dynamics and Italian terms in a logical sequence, much as you would find in a beginner's recorder tutor.... Each section begins with several solo examples and concludes with duets and accompanied pieces, enabling the player to gain experience of sight-reading within the context of ensemble playing.
Sections 1-5 employ the descant recorder only. The treble recorder is introduced in Section 6.'
