Meyer's Point for flute and piano was written in 1995 especially for flutist Ann Marie Yasinitsky and was inspired by a visit to Meyer’s Point, a ninety acre site in Olympia, Washington, which includes woods, pastures, a farmhouse built in the 1930s and the shoreline on Henderson Inlet. The piece is cast in one movement, but expresses a wide range of emotions—from mysterious, ethereal moments, to passages of emotional, heart-felt lyricism, to sections featuring dazzling flute fireworks, all culminating in a dramatic, powerful ending. Meyer's Point is an ideal work for recital or contest performances.
