Here are 3 of the most popular songs from arguably the world’s most popular musical. Arranged for double reed ensemble, this selection contains some truly memorable solos, as well as many rhythmic figures to challenge the ensemble. Maria offers a famous long, winding melody, while the central piece, Tonight, constantly changes tempo, culminating in a soaring Beguine tune. Finally, the rhythmic cocktail of America provides a dazzling finale to the suite. Beginning with a 3 against 2 ‘seis’ introduction, the music develops into ‘tempo di huapango’ a Mexican dance alternating between 6/8 and 3/4. Although this piece would be ideal showpiece for an advanced ensemble, the optional Oboe 4 part is crafted for grade 3 to 4 players.
