Composer's Notes

King's Parade was written for a woodwind competition in Cambridge, hence the title - one of my favourite spots in that wonderful city. The music reflects both the hustle and bustle of the place and the sense of grandeur that one feels walking past those implying buildings of learning and purpose. It should be played with an animated and energetic feel for the rhythm and a broad and resonant legato in the lyrical passages.
