“A winning combination!”
This lovely piece will prove to be very useful, especially in that 'between exams' period and there will be real technical benefits from learning it. Firstly, the writing sits in the higher part of the flute and is gently meandering in nature. This is a great way to learn how to read those higher notes! Vibrato would also add to the texture and there are plenty of places to experiment with it. You can also have a try at flutter tonguing. Most importantly, Moon Glow is atmospheric and appealing, and everyone will love it!
From the Publisher
MOON GLOW for flute and piano by Howard J. Buss captures the beauty and enchantment of a moonlit evening. Contrasting sections encapsulate varied moods suggested by moon glow on different surfaces: snow, water, and the eyes of a person gazing at the sky. At times the moonlight is bright and clear, and sometimes it is muted as if being veiled by passing clouds. The effect creates a magical and contemplative sonic atmosphere. Moon Glow is one of many compositions by the composer inspired by the awesome grandeur of the cosmos. It was composed during the summer of 2015 and is dedicated to flutist Elena Cecconi.
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
