Also available: Coventry Carol, arr. Pearce
One beautiful carol – 2 very different adaptations! Pearce takes the melody and uses the ensemble to re-create a harp-like accompaniment. This is simple and very effective and it is possible to perform it with 6 C flutes. McMichael varies the tune to include a rhythmic climax and the arrangement is much more challenging in terms of the complexity within the ensemble. The piano can obviously take the place of the harp, and the percussion and voice are optional, but there are no alternative parts for the alto and bass flutes so you will need the correct instruments here. Both of these arrangers are experts so the choice is yours – you can’t go wrong!
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
