Famous Arias from The Magic Flute

Our Description

Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute, has held a fascination for audiences since its premier in 1791. The opera speaks to everyone who watches the drama and listens to the music. Even without the words, the music has a drama of its own speaking to each new generation of listeners. Consequently three arias were selected for this volume of "Famous Arias from The Magic Flute". Several arias immediately came to mind as being suitable to make a suite for flute choir. The three arias selected were Papageno's aria, "I am the Bird Catcher, always merry, always gay", Monostatos's aria, "All may feel the joys of love", and finally the second aria of the Queen of the Night, " The revenge of Hell boils in my heart". These three fell very naturally to the timbre of the flute choir whether because of the prominent flute parts in the orchestra or in the case of the Queen of the Night aria the range of the flute and soprano were equally matched. Each of them can stand alone or be used in a suite as we used them several years ago. The Queen of the Night aria was performed at the National Flute Convention in Anaheim during the Saturday noon lobby concert by the Camellia City Flute Choir from Sacramento, California.
