Alena Walentin is an Altus Artist and winner of 26 awards & prizes with a versatile international career as a soloist, chamber musician, arranger, Artistic leader and guest solo flute with leading orchestras such as Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, National Orchestra of Sweden, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, The Philharmonia, London Mozart Players, and others.

She also serves as an International judge in flute competitions such as Young Artist of the National Flute Association (USA), British Flute Society competitions (UK), Kamermuziek Concours Gelre (The Netherlands), International Music Competition VŠMU (Slovakia), II Brussels International Music Competition (Belgium), Singapore Festival Flute Competition (Singapore) and other. Alena has been a member of the Verbier Music Festival (Switzerland) for a number of years as an artist and teacher.

With her great passion for sharing her knowledge since young age, Alena is highly sought after as a flute and chamber teacher, and has already held teaching positions at five conservatoires and one university in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Denmark. She has also given masterclasses in Switzerland, Portugal, Singapore, Italy, Japan, Taiwan and USA.

Alena is also a very keen chamber musician. Together with her wind quintet Atéa they are a double prize winners of the International Carl Nielsen’s Chamber Music Competition as well as third prize winners of a chamber competition in Luxemburg. They are former Tunnel Trust and Kirchmann Societies scholars and are Ensemble in Residence at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire since 2012.

Having given several premieres of works and worked closely with many composers, Alena is particularly keen on supporting female composers who were for a long time underrepresented in the classical world due to their gender. Alena recorded albums with Swiss, German and Danish record labels. Her debut album was chosen as an 'Album of the Week' by the Danish National Radio. And now Alena is looking forward to the upcoming release of her new Naxos recording for flute and guitar by American female composers, which she recorded together with her duo partner Niklas Johansen.
