Adult Flute Day

Sunday, 22 March 2020

This event has been cancelled.

Just Flutes
46 South End

Join Chris Hankin for a relaxed day of flute playing at Europe's most illustrious flute shop!

We have tailored this informal event specifically for the adult flute player, with:

  • Flute ensembles - opportunities to play big flutes!
  • "Agony Aunt" Q&A session with Chris to help with technical or repertoire issues
  • End of day concert

All standards welcome - numbers are limited to 12 so early booking is recommended.

Just Flutes will be open especially for you! So you could try out a new instrument or simply browse the best flute music catalogue in the country – the choice is yours!

You will be able to improve your flute playing and enjoy making music in the company of like-minded people. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday so do join us. We guarantee you a very warm welcome!

10.00am - Session 1

Our day will start with a warm up session before we tackle a piece for flute ensemble. There will be opportunities to have a go at the larger instruments (alto, bass, contra!) if you feel adventurous!

11.15am - Coffee

11.30am - Session 2

At this point you have a choice:

Option 1) I will be leading a Flute Agony Aunt Q&A session, during which you can raise any flute-playing issues that concern you. Perhaps you have any area of technique where you have problems, or you could play a piece/study that might benefit from a little extra support.

Option 2) Explore some music for smaller ensembles.

1.00pm - Lunch

We're based in the Restaurant Quarter of Croydon so there's plenty of choice. Or, make the most of the relaxed atmosphere in a shop open only for you!

2.00pm - Session 3

We'll revisit the morning's flute ensemble repertoire.

3.15pm - Tea

3.30pm - Concert

The programme will consist of any solo pieces that you might like to play, any chamber music rehearsed during the day, and will end with our big flute choir piece. If you would like to bring along friends or family they would be most welcome. Participation is purely voluntary and it will be a really informal affair. It’s a great opportunity though – and you will be playing to the friendliest and most supportive audience ever!

And finally…

We will send music in advance to anyone who would like it - please just contact us with your approximate standard so we can send you an appropriate part. Chris's aim is to help everyone improve during the day, so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
