Dog Chronicles

  • Interesting, worth a look

Our Description

Dedicated to all the wonderful animals that have enriched and enlivened our time on earth. Each movement is set to a text that portrays a smorgasbord of ideas: the essence of dogs, their role in our lives, comparisons to people, and our passion for them. May be performed a variety of ways, perhaps with spoken words and an additional flute playing the soprano part.

Editor's Choice

If you ever have students who need a recital piece for this combination then this little gem will prove invaluable. Alternatively, if you are a dog-lover this is also for you. The words are humourous but not sickly sweet (mostly written by unknown dog-lovers) and the catchy themes are shared between the voice and the melody instruments over a supportive piano accompaniment. The vocal line is very well written and lends a cutting edge to the populist style. Each movement is quite short and could stand alone. although the whole cyle takes only 10 minutes. My favourite is 'A Starving Dog' with its' punchy rhythms and Mark Twain text but Puppy Love will be the big hit. Catherine McMichael is a well respected writer and arranger for flutes and this quirky set of songs is sure to gain popularity simply because it is well crafted and works. Do try it - you won't be disappointed.
