Jack Moore is a highly-respected flute maker from Elkhart, Indianapolis (a centre of musical instrument making in the USA), who retired from flutemaking several years ago. He has worked with flute masters such as William Bennett, Tom Green and Bick Brannen.
The sound of a Jack Moore is unique, while his attention to details on the mechanics is extraordinary; he can almost certainly be credited with putting the WIBB scale on the map. This flute has been played exclusively by WIBB and made for him. This particular model was made in 1982 and is made of thinned tubing and has minimal strap contact on the body, for more freedom in the sound.
This flute has been through our workshop and is in very good working order and plays beautifully. This flute was made in partnership, for and played by William Bennett; the headjoint, made by Miguel Arista has been personally matched to the flute by WIBB himself and it has a very free-blowing and lively character. It is in good overall playing and working condition throughout.
About Jack Moore
Jack’s instruments are characterised by a blend of functionality and practicality, which one rarely sees in other instruments. They are aesthetically attractive, however the key is that the instruments are designed to function practically. Jack’s work on bridge mechanisms is exemplary and the mechanisms are not complex but they never fail to work. This shows in all aspects of his work. In retirement Jack builds approximately one flute a month, working a few hours a day.
