“A movable feast!”
When you open the score the first impression of this piece is that it is a relatively straightforward but atmospheric flute quartet with a couple of notated cadenza passages adding extra interest. It can, of course, be played like that. However, if those cadenza passages are taken as free improvisations and expanded the music takes on a different dimension altogether. It works on so many different levels for all abilities and could be a really good introduction to the art of making it up!
