Volume 2 to “Beatboxing and Beyond: an Essential Method for the 21st-Century Flutist”. A method book for flutists looking to level-up their extended techniques by alternating between techniques and layering techniques such as beatboxing, jet whistles, singing and playing, multi-phonics, among many others. Etudes composed by Nicole Chamberlain and Dr. Mary Matthews wrote an instructional outline on how to prepare and teach each etude.

In book one of this series, Beatboxing & Beyond: An Essential Method for the 21st-Century Flutist, we introduced and provided practice tips and materials for fourteen of the most common extended flute techniques. Each technique was presented on its own as an introduction to the skill. In this book, we are taking it to the next level! This collection of etudes is designed to prepare flutists to play the wide variety of 21st-century repertoire that includes extended techniques. This is achieved through alternating between extended techniques in part one and layering extended techniques in part two. Each pair of extended techniques is drawn directly from one or more contemporary works in the flute repertoire. We recommend studying the etudes and techniques in Beatboxing & Beyond before tackling the etudes in this book.
