Ian once played this at a children’s concert, walking round the Barbican among 2000 children, who loved it. Many young players love this introduction to new techniques (singing and playing at the same time). Jethro Tull, Robert Dick and Ian have done so much to extend the flute in new directions.

Composer's Notes

"An entertaining extended technique showpiece that sounds like its title! Subtitled ‘The Flute As You Don’t Usually Hear It!’ it has proved extremely popular with audiences. Techniques include; residual/breathy fast tonguing, multiphonics, singing & playing, lip bending, explosive harmonics and an optional circular breathing section. A forward with explanations of the techniques is given along with fingerings in the score for easy reference. The multiphonics used are of the more friendly variety; seven from only four different fingerings."  - Ian Clarke

This piece does not require open holes.
