From the Publisher

This remarkable volume of symphonic piano reductions includes four masterpieces that range from the classical to post-romantic period. This collection includes Symphony No. 94 in G Major (Surprise) Hob. 1:94 by Franz Joseph Haydn, Symphony No.11 in B flat Major (Spring) Op.38 by Robert Schumann, Symphony in D Minor by Cedar Franck, and Symphony No. 9 in E Minor (From the New World) Op. 95 by Antonin Dvorak. Great Symphonies Transcribed for Piano Solo presents these monumental compositions to both music theory students and pianists and allows them the opportunity to compare and contrast the development of styles and conventions that occured during the advancement of symphonic composition throughout these musical periods.

These symphonies have not been readily available for several years as piano reductions. Largely due to the advent of the phonograph, the grand tradition of piano transcription and reduction has mostly been abandoned for the immediate gratification of recorded materials. This fulfilling and insightful art is restored in the Great Symphonies Transcribed for Piano Solo series. This new series offers the accomplished pianist:

Contents

  • Haydn: Surprise Symphony
  • Franck: Symphony in D minor
  • Schumann: Spring Symphony
  • Dvorak: From the New World
