Duo for flute and violin (2 Fl, 2 V) in E minor Wq 140 - Duo for 2 clarinets (2 V, 2 Fl) in C major Wq 142

Like Mozart, C. P. E. Bach wrote only occasionally for two unaccompanied instruments. Wotquenne, in his systematic catalogue of C. P. E.Bach's works, lists three works of this sort, but one of these (the Duet in D minor for two violins) could hot be traced. Bach included one duet in a collection which he edited, "Musikalisches Vierlerley" [Musical Miscellena], Hamburg, 1770; another is found in manuscript in the library of the Brussels Conservatoire.

Even though the alliance of flute and violin in the first duet sounds particularly attractive, performance by two violins or two wind instruments may still be recommended without hesitation. The same applies to the second duet, which was originally written for two clarinets, though without taking special account of the clarinet's individual character.
